We write and see each other’s work... Using a digital pen tablet and our writing shows up on the interactive online whiteboard. Together, the tablet and whiteboard allow us to write on the same “page,” just like sitting side by side and writing on the same piece of paper during an in-person tutoring session. And the online whiteboard lets us see in real time what the other person is writing.
We talk together and see each other... during the tutoring session using the Skype webcam and voice chat.
At Satellite, our goal is to offer everyone on the planet access to the world’s greatest New York City tutors. How do we serve the non-NYC population? Online Tutoring. Not only is online tutoring just as effective as face-to-face learning (thanks to outstanding technology which you’ll learn about below), but it is also more convenient for parents and more enjoyable for today’s teens, who are extremely computer savvy and enthusiastic about the internet.
When you sign up for a minimum of 5 online tutoring sessions, you will receive a Bamboo digital tablet in the mail, free of charge, which you will use to write on a shared, virtual whiteboard.
You also need a computer with high-speed internet access and a web camera (ranges from $20 to $75).
Before your first session, you will download Skype, a free video web chat service.
Depending on the test, you will receive pertinent materials by mail or be advised on the proper book(s) to purchase.
Why Online Tutoring?
The power of internet along with the affordability of high speed online service has enabled the development and use of distant learning tools. Online tutoring offers the flexibility of scheduling and the convenience of working from your safe and secure home. The combination of proven technology and experienced, passionate tutors allows SATELLITE to deliver an exceptional tutoring product. As today's teens are computer savvy and enthusiastic about the internet, online tutoring is an obvious choice!
What is Skype?
Skype is a free, online audio/visual communication program that is easy to use and requires a webcam and high speed internet. Basically, it's a web-phone that has a web-cam component so you can see the person you are talking to! Along with Skype, the student and tutor use an electronic pad and pen to display their work on an electronic chalkboard.
